The Human Brain contains millions of cells called Neurons. The Neurons have a component called receptors in them. Electrical Signals are generated by the Neurons. The receptors of one neuron catch the electrical signal of other neuron. In this way, cells communicate. This is also the mechanism by which the brain functions and carries out the functions of the whole body.
What is Long-term Potentiation?
- It is the ability of the neurons to communicate with each other, for long time, continuously.
- It is associated with learning and memory of humans.
- There are several reasons which cause neurons to generate signals and communicate with each other.
- How the neurons continuously communicate with the generated signals is not well understood.
- However there are junctions between two neurons called the Synapse.
- The signals reach these points before entering from one neuron to another neuron.
- Accordingly, the signals or messages are termed pre synaptic and post synaptic.
Health Problems associated with damaged Long-term Potentiation: When the transfer of signals on sustained basis is effected, there can be several neurological diseases. They are Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, Depression, Drug addiction, Epilepsy, and Neuropathic pain. Further Studies are required to understand the connection between this ability of the neurons and its effect on the diseases.

The Pulsed Magnetic Therapy:
- This technique of treatment is based on Faraday’s Law of Electromagnetism in Physics.
- This principle was discovered by American Physicist Michael Faraday.
- According to this principle, whenever the direction of a magnetic field changes, it generates current.
- Using this principle, the neurons are activated by small electrical currents.
- Research reports that this technique promotes the growth of new neurons too.
- This helps in strengthening and sustaining of the signal transmission between the neurons continuously.
- In this way, pulsed magnetic therapy increases the ability of Long-term Potentiation.

I am finding more references lately to Pulsed Magnetic Therapy without any reference to what it is or original studies.
I know that studies were done on pulsed electromagnetic fields transcription for depression.
Though well written and illustrated it falls short as a reference.
