The Heart is one of the vital organs of our body. Its primary function is to produce oxygen rich blood to various parts of our body. It does so by regular moments of expansion and contraction. The muscles of the heart are flexible enough to carryout these moments. There are several pathways which originate from these organ. These pathways are called veins and arteries.

When chemical components like cholesterol rise in our body, these pathways become narrow. The blood thickens and may get clot in these pathways. In such situations, a fatal conditions called cardiac arrest takes place. This article tries to understand how magnetic therapy technique of cardiac MRI is beneficial in detecting cardiac arrest.

Benefits of Cardiac MRI imaging technique: The technique involves passing the patients body through a very strong magnetic field. The image of the inner organs of the body can be viewed in a computer. There are no threats of radiation. The technique is useful in following purposes:

The doctors can understand the state of the various parts and their function of the heart.

The thickness of the veins and arteries can be examined.

Detect the build up of cholesterol in the walls of veins and arteries and clotting of blood.

Identify heart various heart related diseases.

Study the effects of already existing heart diseases on the organ.

Assessment of the damage caused by a heart attack.

Plan a treatment for the patient depending upon the latest state of the heart.

Assessment of the progress of a heart patient recovering from a heart attack.

In this way, the technique of cardiac MRI is very beneficial to the doctors in dealing with heart related diseases of their patients.

Bone metastasis is one of the major causes of cancer pain. Many doctors are of the opinion that treating cancer should involve addressing of cancer pain on priority basis. The common treatment techniques available are the Chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Both these techniques involve further pain as their side effects. This article tries to understand the role of magnetic therapy in treating this cause of cancer pain.

What is Bone Metastasis : Metastasis is the technical name given to spreading of the harmful cancer cells to other parts of the body. One of the most common sites for metastasis to begin are the bones. The harmful cancer cells release the calcium from the bone. This make the bones become weak. The released calcium mix with blood. This rise of calcium in blood in turn leads to several health risks.

Knowledge Gained from Research about Bone Metastasis:

A research study was conducted (dated Sep.2003) at the Department of Radiology, Institut Gustave-Roussy, 39 rue Camille Desmoulins, 94805 Villejuif Cedex, France.

The researchers wanted to the understand the effectiveness of the magnetic resonance imaging technique in detecting cancer causing lesions in the bones.

A lesion is any abnormal tissue (collection of cells), found in an organism, damaged by any disease.

Such tissues are common to be found in the bones attacked by cancer cells during metastasis.

The lesions or the bone marrow contain fat and water in different proportions.

The technique of Magnetic resonance imaging, sensitive to the fat and water, use this fact and produce a picture of the cancer infected region.

The researchers found that the technique is particularly useful after undergoing radiation therapy treatment.

It can easily detected the newly damaged cancer cells or lesions after the treatment.

This technique can produce a picture of any harmful, pain causing cancer cells left out, even after the treatment of chemotherapy or radiation therapy.

In this way, the technique can be instrumental in assessing effectiveness of existing treatment techniques of cancer pain.

According to ancient Chinese medicinal practice of Acupuncture, the human body is made of special points all over the body. When stimulation or pressure is applied on these points, they influence different organs of the body. This believe is the functional philosophy of Acupuncture. The World Health Organisation recognizes 400 of such acupuncture points. The practitioners of Acupuncture use specialized needles influence these points to treat various ailments. This article tries to find out the effect of magnets on these points.

“We have systematically researched and reviewed the literature looking at the effect of acupuncture on brain activation as measured by functional magnetic resonance imaging and positron emission tomography. These studies show that specific and largely predictable areas of brain activation and deactivation occur when considering the traditional Chinese functions attributable to certain specific acupuncture points. For example, points associated with hearing and vision stimulates the visual and auditory cerebral areas respectively.”

- Researchers George T. Lewith, Peter J. White and Jeremie Pariente.

Knowledge Gained from Research about acupuncture points:

Researches were done on these points at the the University of Southampton, United Kingdom and Purpan Hospital of Toulouse, France, in 2005.

The techniques used by the researchers were the latest ones in the field of Magnetic therapy like magnetic resonance imaging MRI.

The researchers found that magnetic field influenced some parts of brain. These parts were associated with the vision and hearing abilities of the body.

Neodymium acu-magnets used to influence acupuncture points:

The strength of these magnets is around 13,500 Gauss.

Such a magnetic field is powerful enough to enlarge the nerves and tissues surrounding the special points.

The magnetic energy then reaches these points effectively and influence them providing therapeutic relief.

1 out of 45 adults in United States suffer from Bipolar Active Disorder. People suffering from this disorder have erratic mood swings. Diagnosis is difficult and cure is not available. Though the Food and Drug Administration, do not approve the practice of Magnetic Therapy as a regular treatment procedure, research done in this field is proving beneficial for many. This article tries to understand how effective magnetic therapy is in treating this mental illness.

How Magnetic Therapy Deals with Bipolar Active Disorder: The latest technique in the field of Magnetic Therapy is the Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation. Here, in this technique, electrical energy is used to active the cells of the brain. Especially the region of the brain associated with the mood regulation is influenced by this technique. The effectiveness of magnetic therapy lies in the fact that the applied technique is very accurate. It influences only the intended region of the brain without influences the functions of the other parts.

The Road Ahead in Treating Bipolar Active Disorder: The relief comes with time. The treatment is to be continuously taken for two weeks. After that appreciable changes can be seen. Once the treatment is discontinued, there may be a possible comeback of the symptoms. According to the researchers involved with applying this technique on patients, there are no serious side effects observed. However some patients complained of headache. This technique is mostly in its experimental stage. The researchers are still trying to make the technique more effective and affordable for the people to buy in the market.

Post-polio syndrome (PPS) is a condition that affects the survivors of the polio years after its recovery. According to an estimation of the National Center for Health Statistics, there are 4,40,000 survivors of polio in the United States. Nearly 60% of these people are at risk of the Post-polio syndrome. Magnetic therapy research studies show that the pain associated with post-polio can be reduced by using magnets. This article tries to gain further insight.

Symptoms of Post-polio Syndrome:

Slow muscle weakness.

Fatigue.

Muscle atrophy.

Change in the bone structure.

Joint Pains.

Knowledge Gained from Magnetic therapy research about Post-polio pain:

The research was carried out by Dr. Carlos Vallbona, at the Department of Family and Community Medicine and the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Taxes in April 1997.

50 post-polio syndrome patients were chosen for the study.

Thirty-nine participants were women and 11 of them were men aged 50. They developed the post-polio syndrome during their 40s.

Magnets of 300 to 500 Gauss strength were applied on the regions were the pain originated in these patients for 45 minutes.

76% patients reported pain relief after the study concluded.

Possible explanation for the post-polio pain relief through Magnetic therapy: According to Dr. Vallbona, there was no clear explanation available for the quick and significant pain relief observed in the patients. However, he supposed that the magnetic energy could affect the pain receptors at the joints. This resulted in the change of signals sent to the brain causing relief. The pain receptors are responsible for receiving and sending signals to and from the brain.
