1 out of 45 adults in United States suffer from Bipolar Active Disorder. People suffering from this disorder have erratic mood swings. Diagnosis is difficult and cure is not available. Though the Food and Drug Administration, do not approve the practice of Magnetic Therapy as a regular treatment procedure, research done in this field is proving beneficial for many. This article tries to understand how effective magnetic therapy is in treating this mental illness.

How Magnetic Therapy Deals with Bipolar Active Disorder: The latest technique in the field of Magnetic Therapy is the Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation. Here, in this technique, electrical energy is used to active the cells of the brain. Especially the region of the brain associated with the mood regulation is influenced by this technique. The effectiveness of magnetic therapy lies in the fact that the applied technique is very accurate. It influences only the intended region of the brain without influences the functions of the other parts.

The Road Ahead in Treating Bipolar Active Disorder: The relief comes with time. The treatment is to be continuously taken for two weeks. After that appreciable changes can be seen. Once the treatment is discontinued, there may be a possible comeback of the symptoms. According to the researchers involved with applying this technique on patients, there are no serious side effects observed. However some patients complained of headache. This technique is mostly in its experimental stage. The researchers are still trying to make the technique more effective and affordable for the people to buy in the market.

Post-polio syndrome (PPS) is a condition that affects the survivors of the polio years after its recovery. According to an estimation of the National Center for Health Statistics, there are 4,40,000 survivors of polio in the United States. Nearly 60% of these people are at risk of the Post-polio syndrome. Magnetic therapy research studies show that the pain associated with post-polio can be reduced by using magnets. This article tries to gain further insight.

Symptoms of Post-polio Syndrome:

Slow muscle weakness.

Fatigue.

Muscle atrophy.

Change in the bone structure.

Joint Pains.

Knowledge Gained from Magnetic therapy research about Post-polio pain:

The research was carried out by Dr. Carlos Vallbona, at the Department of Family and Community Medicine and the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Taxes in April 1997.

50 post-polio syndrome patients were chosen for the study.

Thirty-nine participants were women and 11 of them were men aged 50. They developed the post-polio syndrome during their 40s.

Magnets of 300 to 500 Gauss strength were applied on the regions were the pain originated in these patients for 45 minutes.

76% patients reported pain relief after the study concluded.

Possible explanation for the post-polio pain relief through Magnetic therapy: According to Dr. Vallbona, there was no clear explanation available for the quick and significant pain relief observed in the patients. However, he supposed that the magnetic energy could affect the pain receptors at the joints. This resulted in the change of signals sent to the brain causing relief. The pain receptors are responsible for receiving and sending signals to and from the brain.

The nervous system controls the flow of information between brain and all the other parts of our body. When this important mechanism in our body is hurt, serious disabilities are caused. Neurorehabilitation is the name given to the medical processes which try to recover the nervous system from the injury. Research now confirms how the technique of transcranial magnetic stimulation is helpful in rehabilitation of patients suffering from nrevous system injury. This article tries to gain further insight.

Knowlegde gained from research about Neurorehabilitation by Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation:

Researchers Dr Fortunato Battaglia and Dr Hoau-Yan Wang of the City University in New York conducted the research study(dated May 2007).

They applied the technique of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation on experimental mice for five days.

This technique involves producing electric current by changing the direction of applied magnetic fields on the subjects.

The produced electric current, when passed on the brain of the subjects, stimulate the brain cells called neurons.

The researchers found that this technique caused developing of new brain cells in the mice.

If the technique will be successful in humans too, then even the dreadful Alzheimer’s Disease can be treated.

The research study also found that the technique can produce the very useful stem cells.

The stem cells are the immature cells in our body with the potential to develop in any tissue or organ in the near future.

How Neurorehabilatation is possible with Transcranial Magnetic stimulation: According to the researchers of this study, whenever there ia an injury, there are many ways in which the affected region tries to recover. One such means is the excess functioning of the unaffected regions to compensate for the functions of the affected regions. This is achieved in the case of experimental mice by Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation technique. So, the researchers are hopeful that the technique will be beneficial when applied successfully on humans too. They however have to understand the exact mechanism by which the brain cells respond to the magnetic stimulation.

The human body is made up of atoms and molecules. These substances are tiny magnets in thier own rights. When electric and magnetic fields are applied to the body, these substance respond. The electromagnetic therapy uses this fact and tries to use the response in constructive ways.

The Basics of Electromagnetic Therapy:

Substances in nature are divided in to different classes electrically and magnetically. This classification is based on the extent to which the substances respond to the electric and magnetic field. Electrically, substances are classified as conductors, insulators and semi-conductors.

Conductors: These are the substances highly responsive to the electric field.

Insulators: These are the substances which do not respond to electric field much.

Semi-conductors: These substances fall in between the former groups in terms of the response the give to the electric field.

Magnetically, the substances are classified in to three groups. They are ferromagnetic, paramagnetic and diamagnetic substances.

Ferromagnetic substances: These substances are strongly influenced by the magnetic field.

Paramagnetic substances: These substances are weakly influenced by the magnetic field.

Diamagnetic substances: These substances repel the applied magnetic field.

How Electromagnetic Therapy works: The human body is highly sensitive to electricity as its is a conductor. Different parts of the body however respond differently to magnetic field. In electromagnetic therapy, electric and magnetic fields are applied simultaneoulsy on an organ. The atom and molecules which make up the organ respond to these fields. These responses of the organ are captured in the form of an image. In this way, the information about the affected organ can be collected. It is the response of these atoms and molecules which produce the healing effects too claimed by this therapy.

Magnetic therapy research is trying to explore the field of complementary therapy and alternative medicine to address some challenging diseases affecting the children off late. One such techniques is the Transcranial magnetic stimulation used to treat Aphasia. This article tries to gain further insight.

Basics required to appreciate the technique:

The brain is the organ which orders all the other organs of the body to function.

It passes orders in the form of electrical signals.

There are millions of cells in the brain called neurons which capture and transmit these signals from one corner to other corner.

When disturbances take place in the passing of these signals from one neuron to other, disorders like Aphasia take place.

Patients suffering from this disorder of the brain cannot speak, write and comprehend properly.

According to an estimate 80,000 people get affected by this disorder every year either by head injury or by stroke.

What is Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation:

This technique is based on the law of electromagnetic induction in Physics.

According to this law, whenever the direction of magnetic field chances, electrical current can be produced.

Using this principle, electrical signals are artificially generated in the neurons of the aphasia patients.

These generated signals on continuous basis carry out functions of the body in these patients.

Researchers at the Boston University School of Medicine and VA Boston Healthcare System, Boston, Massachusetts carried out the study of transcranial magnetic stimulation technique on Aphasia patients with positive results.

The recent findings about aphasia treatment definitely raises hopes in the hearts of the millions.

The human body is made up of charged particles called ions. These charged particles are of two types. The positively charged and the negatively charged particles. From the field of Biochemistry we learn that the negatively charged particles are responsible for our well being. The postively charged particles cause us pain and sufferings. Magnets used in magentictherapy possess magnetic force. This force is charge dependent. It means that charged particles like ions get influenced when they come under the magnetic forces. This article tries of understand the health implications of this fact of nature.

What are Ions: All things in the universe are made up of particles called molecules. The molecules are a collection of atoms in turn. Every atom is made up of charged particles called protons(postively charged) and electrons (negatively charged). Normally, the protons and electrons are equal in number inside an atom. But the electrons can be easily pulled out of an atom. Then, the number of postive particles increase in number and the atom turns into a positive ION called the “cation”, technically. The other atom which captures the liberated electron, now has neagtively charged particles in high number. Even here, the atom turns in to a negative ION called “anion”, technically.

How Magnetic Force Influences Ions: According to Physics, there is a formula which calculates the magnetic force exerted by a magneton charged particles in motion. The formula is F= qvb.

where F = Magentic Force experienced by the ions;

q = The charge of the ion, either positive or negative;

v = the speed with which the ions are in motion;

b = the strength of the magnetic field of the magnet.

How Magentictherapy relieves Pain based on these facts: Biochemistry states that pain and swellings in the body are caused by accumalation of postive ions in a certain region of the body. When magentictherapy is used for treatment, the magnetic force influence the positive ions and push them away from the cite of accumulation. This causes relieving of pain and swelling.

Who need the Copper Magnetic Bracelets and Why: The Vegetarians and the people and on diet do not get enough copper from their food intake. Others mostly consume food items containing a form of copper called cupric oxide. Neither it is required by the body nor easily absorbed by it. Copper in its purest form is required for bone development, skin repair and growth and maintenance of various tissues of our body. It plays vital role in the proper functioning of nervous system and the immune system of the body. However, too much copper in the body is harmful for the liver and the kidney. The precise requirement of the copper in body is met by wearing the magnetic bracelets with the presence of copper in them.

Though copper is not attracted to magnets per se, it can be made sensitive to the magnetic field by adding other metals and alloys sensitive to the magnetic field. In this way, the copper magnetic bracelets are made to serve the copper requirements in our body accurately and adequately.

Obesity is a national epidemic in America off late. It is one of the factors that can cause Osteoarthritis. According to the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases, alternative therapies can manage osteoarthritis. This article tries to understand how the the Magnetic Knee Brace can be effective against Knee Osteoarthritis.

What is Osteoarthritis: It involves swelling, pain and reduced motion of the joints like hands, hips, hands and spine. It takes place because of the breaking down of the cartilages in the joints. Cartilages are lubricant tissues covering the ends of the joints. They ease the movement between the bones at the joints. When these cartilages disappear, the bones rub roughly with each other. Ultimately the joints are damaged, resulting in this problem.

There are very few research studies substantiating the benefits of magnetic products in healing pain. In one such rare studies, chronic knee pain in mild-to-moderate knee osteoarthritis patients was studied. The study was carried out for a period of 12 weeks. Every patient had to wear the magnet brace at the knees during this period. Another group involved in the study wore normal knee wraps. They were not allowed to perform any heavy exercises during these period. The muscle strengths of the thighs of these patients were measured. The patients also completed a questionnaire related to the pain and any improvement they had during the study.

Knowledge gained from research about the Magnetic Knee Brace:

It was known that the end that there was reduction in the pain and improvement in the strength of the muscles of the patients wearing the magnetic knee brace.

No such positive improvements were seen the other group.

The researchers supposed that the healing effect of the magnets is because of the alterations made by the magnetic field on the pain signals.

The magnetic field expanded the tissues of the thigh muscles.

This led to increased blood flow along these tissues, enhancing the muscles performance.

Complementary treatment methods like Magnetic Therapy are tried and tested to address this ailment. Research shows a 90% success rate. This article tries to gain further insight into the claims of magnetic therapy to be a diabetic Neuropathy treatment.

What is Diabetic Neuropathy: It is a disorder caused because of suffering from Diabetes for a long time. People suffering from diabetes for 25 years or more are at high risks of getting this disorder. In such people, the blood sugar level is higher than normal. It causes the damage of the nerves all along the body organs. They loose sensation and slowly start under performing. It is mostly because of lack of access to oxygen rich blood and poor blood flow along the nerves. Scientists are still studying this disorder and it will take time for diabetic Neuropathy treatment to develop. Till them, prevention of high blood sugar level is the best technique of combat.

Magnetic Therapy as diabetic Neuropathy treatment:

Magnetic Therapy believes that this disorder can be addressed by increasing the blood flow through the tissues.

Latest Magnetic Therapy Research has revealed that magnets can control the flow of blood through the nerves and tissues of the body.

As a procedure to follow the patient wears a foot ware with magnets.

The shoe insole of these foot ware are very thin and made up of flexible ferrite magnets.

The magnetic field created by these magnets cover the complete foot area and extend up to the knees.

Oxygen rich blood flow along the nerves and tissues is enhanced drastically by applying this technique.
